Future vehicles will be delivered with new alternators with changed characteristics. These require new dual battery solutions. Smart alternators are not always able to charge a dual battery system correctly. The DBM20A with the 12V DC/DC InCarCharger function and a 3 to 4 stage charging process is used here. There are three charging voltages to choose from. If only the IBS-DBM20A is installed, this will detect an IGN (ignition) signal or alternator charge. With the optional installation of the Link Start Kit (DBMLSK + IBS relay + button) or IBS Monitor (new version 8.1), additional functions such as link start, automatic and manual winch support, solar link or quick charging are available. Existing IBS double battery systems can be partially integrated; from version 8.1 the DBM20A functions are fully supported. Switching to an additional Li-Ion battery From version 2.7 onwards,

When the starter battery (main) is charged for the first time to over 13.3V, the DC/DC InCarCharger starts. Charging of the additional battery (Aux) is maintained even if the alternator interrupts charging until the alternator resumes charging or the voltage at the starter battery (Main) falls below 11.9V. IGN not connected: suitable for all other vehicles (including alternators that reduce the charging voltage over time). As soon as the charging voltage on the starter battery (main) exceeds 13.3V, the DC/DC InCarCharger starts and charges the additional battery (AUX) according to the selected charging voltage. Charging is stopped when the voltage on the starter battery (main) falls below 12.7V (vehicle engine was switched off). When putting the DBM20A into operation (connecting red and black), the software version is displayed first and then the charging voltage and the battery type must be configured using the ground contacts of the yellow Link/Prog line. There are 6 program steps available: Low, Low with Equalize, Mid, Mid with Equalize, High, High with Equalize, which are switched one step further in a circle with a ground contact from Link/Prog. 30 seconds after the last change, the selected configuration flashes. The 6 charging modes are displayed via the 4 “Charge Select” LEDs. (Example: Mid Level and Equalize Mode LED means 14.4 charging voltage with Equalize Mode activated) The IBS-DBM20AS has the same basic functions as IBS-DBM20A but an additional solar input. Switching to an additional Li-Ion battery

From version 2.7 onwards, the setting of the additional battery type can be changed from lead to Li-ion battery during the installation of the IBS-DBM20A.

New function:

  • 20A DC/DC InCarCharger
  • 3 or 4 stage charging process (bulk, absorption, equalize, float)
  • 3 charging voltages to choose from (low, mid, high, this corresponds to 14.0V, 14.4V, 14.8V)
  • Link start with optional Link Start Kit (DBMLSK)

Applications: See the schemes below.

  • 12V / 12V InCarCharger double battery system
  • 24V/12V InCarCharger (suitable for 24V 4WD, trucks and military vehicles)
  • 12V / 12V charging system for trailers

Two main configuration modes are available with the IGN input (light blue):

  • IGN on ignition: suitable for vehicles with alternators that partially interrupt charging.
